Abstract

Digital autopilot is a closed loop tracking control system which aligns the launch vehicle in accordance with the guidance command. The controller is designed based on linear quadratic regulator theory. Position and rate gyros are mounted on a flexible launch vehicle. Firstly, a dynamic output feedback control is designed by solving an equivalent optimal constant output feedback problem. An optimal output feedforward compensator is introduced in the outer loop to get tracking properties. Finally, a combined dynamic feedback-feedforward control is designed which is found to give better performance compared to a two loop controller
