A high altitude nuclear burst could produce intense electromagnetic pulses (EMP) having rise times of the order of 5 to 10 ns, relatively long tail times of the order of 200 ns and peak field strengths of about 50 to 100 kV/m. An EMP simulator has been developed using a Marx type pulse generator in combination with a peaking circuit. High voltage pulses of up to 600 kV (peak) with a rise time of 7 ns has been obtained. The transient pulses were measured using a specially built voltage divider. Results from computer simulation of the pulser circuit is also presented
