In the earlier work  now under Comment, an increase was observed in the size of thermal fluctuations of a 3- micrometer polystyrene bead held in an optical tweezers trap, when the laser power was modulated using an acousto-optic modulator (AOM). The resonance (peak in the positional variance) appeared near 2f, where f is the trapping frequency. The two preceding Comments [2,3] seem to disagree with this result, both in the experimental observation and its explanation in terms of a parametric resonance. The theoretical comment by Pedersen and Flyvbjerg analyzes a parametrically driven overdamped oscillator and the authors show that no such resonance is expected near 2f. In the experimental Comment, the authors (Deng, Forde, and Bechhoefer) have tried to reproduce our result using current modulation to vary the laser power, and again find no effect.
