Pathways for the degradation of benzoic acid, hydroxybenzoic acids, methoxybenzoic acids, aminobenzoic acids, alkylbenzoic acids, phthalic acids, and halogenated benzoic acids are discussed. A summary of the aromatic ring cleavage reactions occurring in microorganisms and the enzymes responsible for these reactions is given.
