Abstract

A hybrid chain compound of the formula ${[Sr(L- C_4H_4O_5)·3H_2O]·H_2O}$ (1) and a hybrid double layered compound of the formula ${[Pb(L- C_4H_4O_5)]}$ (2) both with chiral structures, have been prepared strarting with L- malic acid, and characterized by X-ray crystallography and other techniques. An achiral three-dimensional hybrid compound of the composition ${[Pb(D,L- C_4H_4O_5)·2H_2O]}$ (3) has been obtained starting with D, L- malic acid. A chiral coordination polymer of $Cu^{11}$ with the formula ${[Cu_3(L-C_4H_3O_5)_2·4H_2O]·2H_2O}$ (4) has also been characterized. The structures as well as the novel coordination modes exhibited by 1-4 are discussed.
