Abstract

This paper describes a computationally efficient algorithm for transient stability simulation of large scale power system dynamics. The simultaneous implicit approach proposed by H.V. Dommel and N. Sato [l] has become the state-of-the –arc technique for production grade transient stability simulation programs. This paper proposes certain modifications to the Dommel-Sato method with which significant improvement in computational efficiency could be achieved. Preliminary investigations on a standard test system and on a large practical system indicate that the number of network solutions required for convergence per time step can be reduced at least by half. This algorithm finds potential application in real time simulation of generator dynamics for operator training.
