# Synthesis, spectroscopy and structures of o-diphenylphosphinobenzoic acid complexes of diorganotin (IV), palladium (II) and platinum (II)

## Abstract

The reactions of diorganotin oxides with o-diphenylphosphinobenzoic acid $([PPh_{2}(o-C_{6}H_{4}COOH)], LH)$ in 1:1 stoichiometry afforded tetraorganodistannoxanes $[{R_{2}Sn(OOC-C_{6}H_{4}PPh_{2})}_{2}O]_{2} (R = Me, Et, Pr^{n}, Bu^{n})$. o-(Diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid complexes of palladium (II) and platinum (II) with the formulae $[MCl_{2}(LH)_{2}], [MCl_{2}(PR_{3})(LH)] (PR_{3} = PEt_{3},\hspace{5mm} {PBu_3},\hspace{5mm}{PMePh_2};{M = Pd,Pt})$ have been prepared. Reactions of $[\lbrace Bu_{2}Sn(OOC-C_{6}H_{4}PPh_{2})\rbrace _{2}O]_{2}$ with $PtCl_{2}(PhCN)_{2}$ in 1:1 and 1:2 ratio gave a complex mixture of products from which $[Pt(O_{2}CC_{6}H_{4}PPh_{2})_{2}]$ was isolated. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, NMR $(^{1}H, ^{13}C{^{1}H}, ^{31}P{^{1}H}$ and $^{119}Sn{^{1}H})$ and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The stereochemistry of these complexes has been deduced from spectroscopic data. The structures of $[\lbrace Bu_{2}Sn(OOC-C_{6}H_{4}PPh_{2}) \rbrace _{2}O]_{2}$ and $[Pt(O_{2}CC_{6}H_{4}PPh_{2})_{2}]$ have been established by X-ray crystallography.
