Abstract

To capture the discontinuties and other flow features accurately, a numerical scheme should have less dissipation. The first order Kinetic Flux Vector Split (KFVS) scheme is found to be more dissipative. However, higher order kinetic schemes have been developed but they require more points in the stencil and consume more computational time. In this report we propose a modified KFVS method based on modified CIR (MCIR) splitting with molecular velocity dependent dissipation control functions. The different choices for the dissipation control function and the underlying physical arguments are presented. The expressions for the m-KFVS fluxes are derived. The m-KFVS method has been successfully applied to 1D Euler test cases. Numerical results have shown that the m-KFVS method captures the discontinuties more sharply and gives near second order accuracy in smooth regions by still using the first order stencil.
